Guide — Dubai Production
How to choose a production house in Dubai
There are hundreds of production houses in Dubai and almost all of them show a strong reel. The reel is not the decision. What separates studios is who is accountable on the day, what they can technically shoot in-house, and how honestly the scope is written before you commit budget.
This is the checklist we would use if we were briefing a video production company in Dubai ourselves — eight questions, in the order they matter.
Eight things to judge before you sign
01
One team, or a chain of freelancers?
Many production houses in Dubai subcontract each stage — a director from one agency, a DOP from another, an editor overseas. Every handover is a place where the brief drifts and the schedule slips. Ask who is actually on set, who edits, and whether the people pitching you are the people delivering. At Cinematic Production, strategy, direction, shooting, editing, grading, content and even the website the campaign lands on sit with one team.
02
Technical capability, not just a showreel
A reel proves taste; it does not prove capability. Ask what the studio can shoot that others cannot. High-speed cinematography up to 1000fps, for example, turns a pour, a splash, a fabric movement or a tyre spinning into the hero frame of a campaign — and very few production houses in Dubai can deliver it in-house. Ask about camera bodies, lenses, lighting, motion control, drone and permits before you compare quotes.
03
Range across film, photography and content
A campaign rarely needs only one deliverable. You need the hero film, the cutdowns, the vertical social edits, the stills for retail and the paid assets. A studio that shoots film and photography in the same block saves you a second production day and keeps the look consistent across every channel.
04
Understanding of your category
Automotive, beauty, fashion, fitness, hospitality and product all have their own lighting and pacing language. Ask to see work in your category, and ask what the studio would change about it now. A production house that critiques its own work is thinking about your result rather than its portfolio.
05
Clear scope, clear pricing
A credible quote names shoot days, crew, locations, talent, permits, post rounds, delivery formats and usage rights. If a quote is a single number with no breakdown, the variance will surface later. Our published rate card exists so that conversation starts honestly.
06
Post-production and delivery discipline
Most delays in Dubai production happen after the shoot, not during it. Confirm the edit timeline, the number of revision rounds, who grades, who mixes sound, and the exact delivery specs for each platform before you sign.
07
Licensing, permits and logistics
Filming in Dubai means film permits, location approvals, drone clearance and sometimes free-zone or authority coordination. A local production house should handle all of it as part of the service rather than passing it back to you.
08
Ownership of the final assets
Confirm in writing that you own the delivered masters and the usage rights you need, for the territories and duration you need. This is the single clause clients most often discover too late.
Where high-speed cinematography changes the brief
Most production houses in Dubai deliver slow motion at 60 to 120fps, which is enough for movement but not for detail. Shooting up to 1000fps changes what the camera can describe: the exact moment a serum hits skin, ice breaking in a pour, powder lifting off a brush, water beading across paintwork. Those frames are what a beauty, beverage, food or automotive campaign is actually selling.
It also changes the plan: high frame rates demand far more light, tighter focus tolerances and rehearsed product action. If a studio quotes high-speed work without discussing lighting load and rehearsal time, it has not shot much of it. See how we apply it in beauty, product and automotive work.
One team versus a fragmented agency chain
The common Dubai model is an agency that wins the brief, a production company that shoots it, a post house that cuts it, a social agency that carves it up and a developer who builds the landing page. Five contracts, five timelines, five interpretations of the same idea — and you are the only person present at every meeting.
We run the opposite model. Strategy, film, photography, content and social, and the website or application the campaign lives on are handled by one team, with one point of contact and one timeline. That is the whole argument, and it is set out in more detail on why choose us.
Questions clients ask us
What should I look for in a production house in Dubai?
Look for one accountable team rather than a chain of subcontractors, in-house technical capability such as high-speed cinematography, work in your category, a fully itemised quote covering crew, permits, post rounds and delivery formats, and written confirmation that you own the final masters and usage rights.
How much does video production cost in Dubai?
A single-day branded shoot with a small crew and one round of post typically starts in the low thousands of dirhams, while multi-day campaign films with talent, locations and permits scale from there. Cinematic Production publishes a rate card so the starting points are visible before you enquire.
What is high-speed cinematography and when do I need it?
High-speed cinematography records at very high frame rates — up to 1000fps — so a moment lasting a fraction of a second plays back in smooth slow motion. It is used for liquids, powders, fabric, cosmetics textures, food and automotive detail, where the product moment itself is the story.
Is it better to hire a production house or separate freelancers?
Freelancers can be cheaper per line item, but you carry the coordination, the creative consistency and the risk. A production house that keeps direction, shooting, editing and delivery under one team removes the handovers where briefs usually drift.
Does a Dubai production house work outside the UAE?
Good ones do. Cinematic Production is based in Dubai and travels to clients internationally, handling the crew, kit and permits for shoots outside the UAE.
